No impact of bandh on industry, says Buddhadev
Monday, August 5 2002 16:30 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress's (TC) 24-hour bandh in West Bengal against the bifurcation of Eastern Railway on August 5 had no impact on industries in the state, Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee said on August 5.

"The bandh had no impact on the industry. There was normal work in tea gardens, mines and ports. Attendance in the government offices in the districts was also normal," the Chief Minister told reporters in Kolkata.

Attendance at the state secretariat and other government offices in Kolkata was 'not normal'. "Not more than 50 per cent of the employees in these offices could come."

Bandh supporters blockaded roads and railway tracks at some places but were removed, he said.

Taking a dig at the Trinamool Congress, he said, "Those who have called the bandh can only say what they have gained from it."
