Bangalore: Karnataka Governor V S Rama Devi on August 5 expressed deep shock and grief over the "intrepid death" of Captain Sylvester Rajesh Rathnam of the 21st Jat regiment on August 2 in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

In her condolence message, she said Captain Rathnam has shown "exemplary and valour sense of commitment in safeguarding the honour of our motherland and attained martyrdom by making supreme sacrifice. He is a shining example for what dedication should be. His supreme sacrifice will be remembered by his fellow citizens for ever".
