Jaya vows to sort out uniformed personnel's woes
Monday, August 5 2002 17:02 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: The third and penultimate contingent, consisting of 1,212 uniformed personnel from the Central zone on August 5 presented their grievances in batches to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Uniformed personnel drawn from police, fire brigade and prison departments, working in Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Puducottai, Nagapattinam and other districts in Central Tamil Nadu, ventilated their grievances to the Chief Minister in person, in her chambers at the secretariat.

This is the first ever exercise undertaken by any Chief Minister in the country.

Jayalalithaa launched 'Grievances Day' on July 26 when nearly 1,700 personnel petitioned their demands to her. In the second exercise on August 2, over 1,700 personnel gave petitions.

The last contingent from Northern Tamil Nadu including Chennai, will petition the grievances on August 7.

Earlier, addressing the uniformed forces, Jayalalithaa said that if there was peace in the state now, it was mainly because of the discharge of duties by the police personnel.

"Whatever is your demand, if they are fair, will be met by the government," she said.
