Ljubljana: Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said on August 21 that he thought
the vision for Middle East peace presented by US President George W Bush was the
best way to break the region's cycle of violence.
"We have the design. Now we have to collect material and start building," Peres
said.
Peres said he supported Washington's vision of ending the violence, improving the
economic situation in the Palestinian territories, and re-opening peace talks, the
STA news agency said.
Working-level officials from the international diplomatic "quartet" on the Middle
East, the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia- major
donors Japan and Norway and the International Monetary Fund and World Bank are set
to meet on August 22 in Paris to discuss Palestinian reforms.
Peres was in Slovenia for a one-day visit, during which he met with his Slovenian
counterpart Dimitrij Rupel, who said that Peres was "a key figure in the bid for
Mideast peace".
Peres was also to meet Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek, President Milan Kucan, and
Parliament Speaker Borut Pahor during his trip.
