Godhra: Iliyas Sikander Giteli alias Moteschi, who was in the custody of Godhra
police, has been arrested by the government Railway police (GRP) for his alleged
involvement in the attack on Sabarmati Express on February 27, which resulted in the
death of 59 passengers.
The town police and local crime branch respectively from the city limits in
connection with incidents of riot in the town arrested Giteli and Shabbir alias
Bhupat Bhuriya Abdul Rehman on August 25.
While Bhupat Bhuriya is still in the custody of local crime branch, Giteli's custody
underwent a change on August 30 as he was arrested by the GRP after the latter took
the accused's possession on transfer warrant (obtained from railway court) to
interrogate him for his alleged role in the carnage case.
So far 75 accused have been arrested by the GRP which is investigating the train
carnage case.
On August 27, magistrate Patel, whose court is holding trial in the Sabarmati
Express attack case, ordered the attachment of property of 33 accused who were
absconding.
He passed the order following an application in this regard by the investigating
officer of the train carnage case.
The 33 accused wanted in connections with the attack on Sabarmati Express were
declared absconders by the court in July.
The process of the attachment of the property of the 33 accused would be carried out
by a committee comprising district magistrate, Godhra Nagarpalika's chief officer,
talati cum mantri and regional transport officer of the town, the court said in its
order.
