Nagercoil: The Congress has demanded the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for failing to arrest forest brigand Veerappan even as over one year had passed after the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) came to power.

Talking to reporters on August 30, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president E V K S Elangovan said Jayalalithaa, while in the Opposition, had sought the resignation of the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi and Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna for failing to nab Veerappan.

Alleging that the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated after the AIADMK came to power in the state, he alleged that state government was misusing police force. He also blamed the government for not able to solve issues including Cauvery issue, teachers' strike, weavers problems and court fee hike issues.
