New Delhi: The Election Commission may look into the 16-point financial package
announced by the Centre for migrants from the Valley of Jammu and Kashmir which is
going to polls next month.
"The Commission has been told by the Ministry of Home Affairs it is old. Anyhow, we
may look into it on Monday," a senior EC official said.
The Commission's response came when asked to comment on National Conference
president and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah's reported
remarks that EC should go into Centre's announcement on the package for Kashmiri
pandits at a time when the model code of conduct was in force.
Minister of State for Home I D Swami had told a group of reporters early this week
that the Centre has firmed up a package for Kashmiri migrants offering over Rs 7
lakh per family for resettlement in the Valley.
