Bangalore: A day after the state Cabinet decided that the ministers should keep mum
on the abduction of former minister H Nagappa by forest brigand Veerappan, the
Congress on August 31 told its office-bearers not to talk anything on the kidnap to
the press, saying it was a "sensitive issue".
None should give any statement that can potentially cause confusion that too at a
time when Chief Minister S M Krishna was making "ceaseless efforts" to secure the
release of Nagappa, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Allum
Veerabhadrappa said in a statement.
Veerabhadrappa reminded the party leaders that the state Cabinet had taken a "good
decision" that no ministers, except the Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge and Chief
Minister, should make any statement on the kidnap issue.
After the Cabinet meeting on August 31, the government declined to even say whether
it was considering sending an emissary to negotiate the release of Nagappa.
