Two KLO ultras killed in encounter in Bengal

Siliguri (WB): Two Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) ultras, including a suspect in the attack on a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) office in Dhupguri, were killed in a fierce encounter with the police at Beltoli village of Coochbehar district early August 31, inspector general of police (North Bengal), Bhupinder Singh, said.

Haripada Roy alias David Barua, a top KLO leader and one of his associates were chased when they were seen moving suspiciously at Beltoli under Mathabhanga police station area at around 03:00 hours (IST).

The two opened fire from 9 mm pistols, forcing the police to retaliate. In the ensuing encounter, the two ultras were killed on the spot, Singh said.

The associate was yet to be identified.

The KLO killed five CPM activists in an audacious attack in a party office at Dhupguri of Jalpaiguri district recently.

Another KLO ultra and a suspect in the Dhupguri attack, Sailab Sarkar, was killed in an encounter at the Indo-Bhutan border on August 28.
