Udupi: Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in this
temple town, which is the seat of "dwaita" (dualism) philosophy and renowned for the
about 700-year-old Krishna temple.
The presiding deity was adorned with special jewellery as "Bala Krishna" and was
seated on the gold cradle. Hundreds of devotees from different parts of surrounding
taluks thronged the temple.
The religious rituals were performed under the guidance of Sri Vidyadheesha Thirtha
Swamiji of Paryaya Palimar Mutt.
A car festival with the Krishna idol being carried on a gold chariot also conducted
around the main streets of the temple.
