Ahmedabad: The much-hyped "Gujarat Gaurav Yatra" of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),
which was to be flagged off from Phagvel in Kheda district on September 3, has been
postponed, "keeping in mind peoples' sentiment at large" in view of a parallel
function that day.
Bharat Pandya, former BJP MLA and media committee chairman, said on September 1 that
the "Gujarat Gaurav Yatra" has been postponed from September 3 to September
7.
Asked whether the decision was a fallout of Gujarat Congress president Shankarsinh
Vaghela's threatening posture and parallel function by his supporters in the
village, revered as a pilgrimage centre of Bhatiji Maharaj, Pandya said
"BJP had shown magnanimity while deciding to postpone the yatra from September 3 to
7," he said.
"We are aware of a parallel function at Phagvel on the day of Gujarat Gaurav Yatra
is to be launched. Therefore, keeping in view of the sentiments of the people at
large and also to ensure that there was no untoward incident on that day, the BJP
decided to postpone its Gujarat Gaurav Yatra," he said
