New Delhi: Three Ahmedabad youth, owing allegiance to Lashkar-e-Toiba militants,
arrested for allegedly planning to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi
and some senior Sangh Parivar leaders, were on September 2 remanded to police
custody for three days.
Pervez, Sayed Wasim and Abdul Latif, booked under POTA, were brought from Ahmedabad
and produced before special judge S N Dhingra, who remanded them to police custody
till September 5 for interrogation.
Seeking the police custody of the trio, investigating officer Rajbir Singh said they
needed to be interrogated to verify their role in the plot to assassinate Modi,
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Praveen Bhai Togadia and some other
Sangh Parivar leaders.
Accepting police request, the court said, "Taking into account the nature of their
involvement in the plan, the police remand of the accused is granted".
Police told the court that the three youth were arrested by the Gujarat police in
Ahmedabad on August 31 after Shahid Ahmed Bakshi, a LeT militant apprehended in
Delhi, had given information regarding their involvement in the plan.
Beside Shahid, a resident of Ahmedabad, two other LeT members Farhan Ahmed Ali and
Hafiz Mohd Tahir of Moradabad and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh were arrested and
remanded to police custody last week.
The youth, who were brought on transit remand from Ahmedabad, told the court that
they were assisting Shahid in sending his e-mails to Gulf countries and Nepal.
