London: Declaring that there remained a risk of Indo-Pak conflict, Britain on
September 4 issued fresh advice to its citizens against traveling to those areas of
Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab which are close to the border with
Pakistan.
"In view of the heightened tension and increased troop movements along the India-
Pakistan border, we advice against all travel in those areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan
and Punjab in the imminent vicinity of the border and areas of Ladakh close to the
Line of Control," said a statement issued by Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Stating that there remained a risk of conflict between India and Pakistan and the
situation could deteriorate at a short notice, it said, "In that event, there could
be difficulty in travelling to safety. Was a conflict to start, our capacity to
evacuate British nationals would be limited."
However, "we do not advice against travel to Amritsar, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur,
Bikaner or Jaisalmer," the advisory said.
Referring to communal violence in Gujarat hit by communal violence, it said, "The
situation remains volatile. We advice visitors to exercise caution and to monitor
developments through the media."
