JKDFP boycotts polls, rules out anti-poll drive
Thursday, September 5 2002 20:29 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), led by separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, on September 5 decided to boycott the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections but not to join any anti-poll campaign.

"We are not participating as the elections are meaningless," JKDFP chief organiser Saleem Geelani said after the party's apex body met to take a decision on the polls.

However, JKDFP will not actively run an anti-poll campaign as our non-participation was enough indication of our opposition to the elections, he said.

''Our stand is well-known and we want resolution of Kashmir issue through a peaceful dialogue,'' Geelani said.
