Chennai: Accusing Pakistan of promoting cross-border terrorism to destabilise the
country, deputy chief of Army (Training and Co-ordination) Lt Gen J B S Yadava on
September 7 said that the Army was fully prepared to meet the external threat which
the country faced even on September 7.
If the need arose to retaliate India would emerge in an advantageous position, he
told reporters after reviewing the Short Service Commission passing out parade at
the Officers' Training Academy (OTA).
"No infiltrators can cross the border without connivance of Pakistan," he said and
pointed out that there had been a number of incidents when infiltrators had been
intercepted while trying to enter the country.
He said that Pakistan should stop infiltrators from crossing over to India.
Organised terrorism, earlier witnessed only in the border state of Jammu and
Kashmir, was now spreading to other parts of the country, he said.
Stating that there was, however, a perceptible change in Pakistan's attitude along
the border, and attributed it to the result of international pressure on that
country and the presence of the Indian Army. "This has put the Pakistan Army
somewhat in a defensive posture," he said.
