Cauvery monitoring panel begins crucial meet

New Delhi: A crucial meeting of the Cauvery River Monitoring Committee (CMRC) began on September 7 to work out a distress river water sharing formula between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The meeting is being held in the backdrop of the Supreme Court directive to Karnataka to release 1.25 TMC feet water to Tamil Nadu till the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), headed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, meets and takes a decision.

Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, who is camping here to impress upon the Prime Minister to convene the CRA meeting before he leaves for the United States on September 9, is likely to meet Vajpayee soon after the CMRC meeting.
