Chennai: Over 2000 teachers of Tamil Nadu government primary schools were taken into custody on September 7 for violating regulatory orders in force in the city.

The teachers, protesting the reduction of number of teachers in schools, had assembled to take out a procession from the government guest house to the Secretariat when they were rounded up by police.

They are expected to be released later on September 7, police said.
