New Delhi: Kashmir Committee (KC) and Hurriyat Conference on September 7
discussed "specific proposals" regarding resolution of the Kashmir issue as a
decision was taken that the KC would meet its Pakistani counterpart.
"We have decided to meet Kashmir Committee of Pakistan at any time and place of
convenience," Kashmir Committee member Dilip Padgaonkar told reporters after a two-
and-a-half hour meeting between Kashmir Committee and a four-member Hurriyat
delegation at the residence of its chairman Ram Jethmalani.
Kashmir Committee and Hurriyat leaders will meet on September 7 at a mutually
convenient time to carry forward the dialogue, Padgaonkar, an eminent editor
said.
During the talks it was decided that discussions should be held at various levels
and even simultaneously, he said.
He said details would be worked out.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the talks had moved a "great deal forward" as the
discussions now were centred on "specific issues" and "steps" to resolve the issue.
As both sides refused to reveal these "specific issues", Umar Farooq said, "As the
issue is complex, it will take some time to resolve it."
Asked whether the Kashmir Committee will apprise Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee
or Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani about the progress of the talks, Padgaonkar
said, "We will be communicating with concerned persons in the government."
