Mumbai: The controversy over objectionable scenes in the film 'Ek Chhoti Si Love
Story' took a new turn with Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray refusing to meet its
producer-director Shashilal Nair, who went to his residence on September 7 night,
even as the actress moved the appropriate authorities for revoking the exhibition
license of the film.
Nair went to meet Thackeray at his "Matoshree" residence but the Sena chief did not
see him. Thackeray's secretary, however, accepted a letter from the producer and
said the Sena chief would get back to him, Nair's spokesman said.
In another development, lawyer of actress Manisha Koirala Satish Maneshinde dashed
off letters to Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Sushma Swaraj and
Central Board of Film Certification urging them to revoke or suspend the license
under the provisions of Cinematograph Act.
The letters were faxed on September 7, Maneshinde told said.
Nair had gone to meet Thackeray to clarify his stand on the issue concerning
objectionable scenes in the film and had even threatened to go on hunger strike if
the talks failed.
In the letter, he urged Thackeray to consider the issue as a creative art. Nair
reminded Thackeray that he had in the past made film "Angaar" and the Sena chief had
described it as a masterpiece of creative art. He urged Thackeray to consider
film 'Ek Chhoti Si Love Story' as a creative work.
The high court, hearing Manisha's appeal, granted a stay on the commercial release
of the film. The Shiv sainiks had on September 7 resorted to noisy protests in
theatres leading to cancellation of shows of the film. So far, seven persons have
been arrested in this connection.
