New Delhi: National Conference (NC) on September 7 attacked Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), its ally at the Centre, for its electoral tie-up with Jammu State Morcha,
which is demanding trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir state, and said its future
alliance with BJP would depend on the "tone and tenor" and "speeches" of the ongoing
elections in the state.
"On the issue of trifurcation now there seems to be a bit of ambiguity, wherein the
BJP is now willing to share seats with a forum (Jammu State Morcha) that is
demanding trifurcation. That's almost as good as National Conference sharing seats
with the Hurriyat in order to gain power," party president Omar Abdullah
said.
"So, I think the tone and tenor of this election and the speeches will really
determine the future course of the relationship of the National Conference with the
NDA and vice-versa," Abdullah said participating in Vir Sanghvi's "Star Talk"
programme of Star News Channel to be telecast on September 8.
The Minister of State for External Affairs said so far as the BJP sticks to the line
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani has stated in Parliament that there will be no
trifurcation of the state, "we have no problems".
To a question, he said, "So long as the government sticks to the agenda of the NDA
and so long as there are other secular parties that can keep the agenda on, straight
and narrow, we will still be able to manage."
