Ek Choti Si Love Story: Nair to meet Thackeray
Saturday, September 7 2002 20:19 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Shashilal Nair, producer of the controversial film 'Ek Chhoti Si Love Story', would be meeting Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on September 7 night to clarify his stand with regard to the "objectionable" scenes in the movie and threatened to go on a hunger strike if the "talks" failed.

Nair's spokesman said that the producer had decided to meet Thackeray and apprise him of his viewpoints. In case the talks fail, Nair would resort to a hunger strike outside "Matoshree", the suburban residence of the Sena chief, from on September 8, he said.

Nair's decision to meet Thackeray comes in the wake of actress Manisha Koirala meeting the Sena chief on the issue to seek his support.

The Shiv Sainiks had September 6 resorted to noisy protests in theatres, leading to cancellation of shows of the film. So far, seven persons have been arrested in this connection.

The High Court, hearing Manisha's appeal, granted a stay on the commercial release of the film.

Scores of Shiv Sainiks on September 7 demonstrated outside a West Delhi cinema screening controversial Manisha Koirala starrer 'Ek Chhoti Si Love Story' and warned other theatre owners of "action" if they did not withdraw the "indecent" movie.

Led by party's Delhi unit vice-president Dharmender Kumar Bedi, the Sena activists, carrying banners and placards and shouting slogans against "vulgar scenes" in the film, demanded that the cinema owners immediately pull out the movie "which tends to spoil the younger generation".

Police sources said the demonstration outside the PVR Vikas Puri was "peaceful" and no arrests were made.

"This is only a symbolic protest. However, if the cinema owners do not withdraw the film, we will not hesitate from taking any step to stop its screening," party's Delhi unit chief Jai Bhagwan Goyal said.

Meanwhile, cinema hall owners said they will not withdraw the movie unless they receive specific orders from a court.

Police have also beefed up security in and around cinema halls screening the film to prevent any untoward incident.

The screening of the film in most of the movie halls in Mumbai was cancelled September 6 after Shiv Sainiks staged demonstrations and set afire posters in protest against "objectionable" scenes in the movie following a meeting actress Manisha Koirala had with party chief Bal Thackeray.
