Saturday, September 7 2002 17:05 Hrs (IST)

Bhopal: The city police on September 6 arrested a Pakistani national, holding the post of vice-president of Madhya Pradesh Janata Dal (Secular), for staying in the city without valid documents for the past 31 years.

Abdul was nabbed from his house under Aishbagh police station area, during a search of possible Pakistani spies staying in the city, according to district superintendent of police Arun Pratap Singh.

He said the man is known as Abdul Razzak though his real name is Rizan-ul-Haque and he hails from Pakistan. He came to India about 38 years back, Singh said.

Information about the Pakistani national was received from Meerut police just before President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam's two-day visit to the state.

Singh said the Pakistani national had been charged with a murder in Meerut in 1965 and added that he had also worked for some time in Meerut Municipal Corporation.

Abdul alias Rizwan was also president of the local insaf manch and was running a madrassa.
