Srinagar: Intensifying attacks ahead of the Assembly polls, militants killed 10 people, including an Army Captain and three police officers, in Jammu and Kashmir since September 8 evening.

Twenty-six people, including six women and a policeman, were wounded in two powerful grenade explosions triggered by militants at Batmaloo in central Srinagar and at Bijbehara in Anantnag district, police said.

Militants and security forces traded fire at Mahore in Udhampur district in which three securitymen, including an Army Captain, a militant and two village defence committee members were killed.

Police picked up the body of an FCI employee in Poonch district.

Three policemen and a Hizbul Mujahideen ultra were killed in a fierce gunbattle at Naslahpora in Badgam district in Central Kashmir.

Security forces arrested a top commander of Tehrik-ul-Mujahideen, Mehraj-ud-din Bhat alias Tariq Zubair, from Peerbagh area on Srinagar airport road.

The militant's interrogation led to the recovery of 30 kg of RDX, two wireless sets and two rifle grenades.
