New Delhi: Former Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq on September 9 met the officials of the United States and German Embassy in New Delhi to apprise them of the discussions with the Kashmir Committee led by Ram Jethmalani.

"We discussed the present situation in the Valley and apprised them of the discussion that the Hurriyat delegation had with the Kashmir Committee," the Mirwaiz said after the meetings.

Rejecting the reports that the United States was unhappy with the Hurriyat Conference for its poll boycott call, he said, "The issue of polls did not come up during our discussions as it is a closed chapter for us."

The Mirwaiz claimed that the embassy officials were happy that the "channel of communications" was open between the Kashmiri separatist leaders and the political leadership.

Farooq, who is the religious head of Kashmir Valley, however, did not attend the luncheon meeting with the officials of the Pakistan High Commission, which was attended by Hurriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat and others.
