EC transfers J&K officials for dereliction of duty

New Delhi: Keeping a strict watch on erring officials in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission has ordered the transfer of the Doda superintendent of police and four others and suspended three junior officials for dereliction of duty.

The Commission, in its directions to the state government, wanted transfer of superintendent of police of Doda and two sub-divisional magistrates and two tehsildars in Doda and suspension of a block development officer (BDO) of B K Pura in Badgam and another BDO and one junior engineer in Doda for dereliction of poll duty.

The EC has also recommended suspension of two lecturers of Physics in Jammu for attesting forms of non-existent migrant electors and for attesting blank forms.

Conforming to its commitment to make the poll process in the state transparent, the Commission also issued special passes to 28 diplomats, including from US, to witness the elections which have evoked considerable interest abroad.

The diplomats would be allowed access to polling and counting centres, Deputy Election Commissioner A N Jha said on September 13.

Besides US, diplomats from the UK, the European Commission, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland have been given this facility.
