New Delhi: India and Malaysia on September 13 agreed to widen military training
exchanges specially by swapping instructors and participation in Defence seminars.
This was agreed at the fourth Indo-Malaysian Defence Co-operation meeting held in
New Delhi. At the meeting, officials from the two sides also agreed to widen the
scope of beneficial co-operation of supply of weaponry spares and servicing of
Russian equipment like MiG-29 fighters, common to the two countries.
The 22-member Malaysian delegation to the meeting was led by Tan Sri Dato Hashim
Meon, Secretary General of Defence, and the Indian side by Defence Secretary Subir
Dutta.
The two countries have already set up sub-committees on co-operation in military,
Defence industry, science and technology.
The Indian side extended an invitation to the Malaysian delegation to attend the
international seminar on sonar technology being organised by the Defence Research
and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Kochi in December and the forthcoming Aero-
India 2003.
