2 killed, one injured in ANVC attack in Meghalaya

Shillong: Two persons were killed and another was injured in cross firing between police and Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) militants at Warema in East Garo hills district of Meghalaya, official sources said on September 13.

Acting on a tip off the police reached Warema, on the banks of river Simsang, where the militants opened fire on them on September 12. Police retaliated and in the exchange of fire, which continued for half an hour, the two civilians died on the spot, while another injured, the sources said.

There was, however, no report of any casualty or injury on the sides of the police or the militants, who made good their escape, they said.

Later, police recovered one hand grenade and few empty shells of AK-47 rifles and a 9 mm pistol from the spot, the sources said.

A combing operation was launched to apprehend the culprits, they added.
