PWG denies involvement in Rajdhani derailment
Friday, September 13 2002 13:03 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Proscribed ultra outfit Peoples' War Group (PWG) has denied any role in the derailment of Rajdhani Express at Rafigunj in Bihar and demanded the immediate removal of Nitish Kumar from the Union Cabinet for making "irresponsible statements" against ultra left organisations.

The outfit took exception to Railway Minister Nitish Kumar's sabotage claim behind the tragedy, its Magadh division secretary Prakash in a press release said none of the ultra outfits "ever play politics with the lives of common men".

"Instead the activists extended a helping hand to the passengers of the ill-fated train at a time when there was no trace of either Bihar government or Railways officials," he said and condemned the alleged neglect shown in the treatment of the injured.

Demanding removal of Kumar from the Union cabinet, he said murder cases should be instituted against the Railway officials on duty.

Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), which has a strong base in the area, is yet to come out with any statement.

Meanwhile, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) state committee has also sought the resignation of the Railway Minister for his alleged failure to handle the crisis properly.

The Railways failed to carry out rescue operation at the desired pace that was expected of them, a CPI-M press release alleged.

The Railways, which called off the marathon rescue operations after four days on September 13, has put the toll in the derailment of the high-speed train at 119.
