Kolkata: Technocrat and WorldTel CEO Sam Pitroda on September 13 said that there was great scope for development in West Bengal and assured Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee of his cooperation in this direction.

Pitroda who had an hour-long discussion with the Chief Minister on various issues including development in sectors like IT, primary health care and agro-industries, told reporters at the state secretariat that Bhattacharjee sought his cooperation on various matters including investment in the state.

The Chicago-based technocrat said that he was ready to extend his cooperation for the development of West Bengal.

Pitroda said that a couple of projects including an initiative by the US-based NRI forum 'Boston Pledge' to promote investments in the state, also figured at the talks. "We will explore the scope and possibilities further."

He also said that India with 35 million landline and eight million mobile connections was set to achieve 100 million connections in the communication network.

Pitroda, former Chairman of the Telecom Commission who had undertaken the project of RailTel Corporation during the tenure of Mamata Banerjee as Railway Minister, regretted that it had been scrapped by her successor.
