Bangalore: In a rare distinction, well-known economist P R Bramhananda has been
elected president of the International Economic Association (IEA), the professional
body of all economic associations of the world, at its ongoing Lisbon
conference.
Bramhananda said this has been conveyed to him by the Indian Economic Association
president C T Kurien who has received a message from the IEA about his election as
honorary president of the body.
In a statement, he said he was the fourth Indian to be conferred this honour after
Nobel Prize winner Amartya Kumar Sen and late Prof C N Vakil and late Prof Sukhamoy
Chakravarthy.
A former president of the Indian Economic Association, Bramhananda was also earlier
Executive Member of the IEA for six years. He was also the Director of the School of
Economics, University of Mumbai, and is presently Managing Editor of The Indian
Economic Journal, the quarterly journal of the Indian Economic Association.
