Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Laloo Prasad Yadav on September 16
accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of deliberately delaying sanction to
prosecute Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Union Ministers Murli Manohar Joshi
and Uma Bharti in the Babri Mosque demolition case.
"The Bahujan Samaj Party-led government in UP is deliberately sleeping over the
Allahabad High Court directive to accord sanction for the prosecution of the three
top BJP leaders in the Babri Mosque demolition case," Yadav told reporters.
The court directed the UP government to grant sanction for their prosecution by
September 27, 2002 and "instead of taking the court's order seriously, Mayawati has
invited Advani to a party rally at Lucknow on September 28", he said.
Yadav said his party would not allow the UP government to cover up the case
with "tacit support of Union Home Ministry".
"If the UP government fails to meet the court's deadline, the RJD will launch a
nation-wide agitation to expose the communal forces and their sympathisers," he
added.
Yadav, in a letter faxed to Mayawati reminded her about the promise that she would
not compromise with communal forces and follow the court directives in the case.
"You (Mayawati) seem to have forgotten your commitment, but the country is watching,
you will not be allowed to go back on your promise," Yadav warned.
The RJD chief said that he as a member of the Parliamentary consultative committee
of the Home Ministry would raise the issue of prosecuting the culprits of Babri
mosque demolition with commitment to the ideal of secularism.
