Delhi police starts attaching Sharma's properties
Tuesday, September 17 2002 22:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: In an effort to mount pressure on absconding senior IPS officer R K Sharma, prime accused in the journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, Delhi police have begun attaching his properties estimated to be worth crores of Rupees in various places across the country.

Police have already attached six of his properties, including four houses, and sealed his bank accounts after a Delhi court allowed it to proceed in this direction.

"The process of attachment has begun and we are identifying and enlisting his properties which are scattered at various places across the country," a top police official said on September 17.

The properties included three flats in Gurgaon, Haryana, a house in Mussoorie, a piece of land in Uttar Pradesh and the cost of these is believed to be around Rs 3 crore.

The measures were initiated after Sharma, who has been absconding since August 2, failed to make himself available despite a court issuing a non-bailable warrant against him.

A Delhi court on September 9 had allowed police to attach his properties and declared him "proclaimed offender".

Meanwhile, Sharma is believed to be contemplating to move Supreme Court for anticipatory bail after failing to get it from Delhi High Court and two lower courts.
