Student bandh paralyses life in Arunachal Pradesh
Wednesday, September 18 2002 12:18 Hrs (IST)

Itanagar: Normal life has been affected due to the 24-hour statewide bandh call given by all Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) from 5.00 hours (IST) on September 18 in support of their 12-point charter of demands including withdrawal of Arunachal Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act 2002 (APCOCA).

The markets remained closed and private vehicles were off the road. However, the state transport buses are running with police escort. The educational institutions, banks and post offices also could not function. However the state government offices are functioning with moderate attendance in the capital complex, official sources said.

The police has made preventive arrest of five AAPSU activists on September 17 night and 10 on September 18 morning. The arrested AAPSU leaders include its president Dominic Tadar.

Meanwhile, the police had to use one round of teargas shell to disperse a group of students who were pelting stones on government vehicles at Nirjuli, the police said.
