
Ahmedabad: An indefinite curfew, imposed in Borsad town of Anand district on
September 17 following arson and police firing, that claimed one life, continued for
the second day on September 18 even as the situation in the town remained tense but
under control.
Police said no untoward incident was reported since September 17 night.
A clash broke out between members of two communities over an issue of riding
motorcycle on September 16. Police had to open fire after the mob hurled crude
bombs, prompting authorities to impose indefinite curfew.
However, in fresh outbreak of violence on September 17, some shops were set ablaze
by the frenzied mobs in the town, forcing police to burst 31 rounds of teargas
shells and fire 22 rounds, that claimed one life and left three others injured,
police said.
Twenty-six policemen and fire brigade personnel were also injured in the heavy stone
pelting.
