'PM has done justice to Tamil Nadu on Cauvery'
Wednesday, September 18 2002 15:08 Hrs (IST)

Coimbatore: Given the situation, justice was done to Tamil Nadu by the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), the state BJP claimed on September 18.

Both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were facing "real problem" due to the scanty rainfalls and given the situation, Vajpayee has done justice to Tamil Nadu by asking to release 9000 CUSECS of water per day, BJP state general secretary, H Raja told presspersons.

On the allegations by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa against Vajpayee of acting in a biased manner, Raja said, "it is unfounded and politically motivated without any basis".

River being under state List, the Centre has got its own limitations and considering the situation in both the states, Vajpayee had acted accordingly, Raja justified.

He said Karnataka Chief Minister, S M Krishna had met all former Karnataka Chief Ministers and Opposition party leaders before arriving at a consensus on the vexed issue. Raja asked whether Jayalalithaa had made any efforts to convene an all party meeting to discuss the issue in Tamil Nadu.

"Will she be ready to meet former Chief Minister and DMK Chief, M Karunanidhi personally to discuss the issue," he asked.

On the charges that Central ministers from Tamil Nadu had remained silent, whereas BJP minister from Karnataka, H Ananthkumar had taken initiative to convene the CRA meeting, Raja claimed that all National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ministers and MP's had met Vajpayee and appraised him on the issue, which, however, was done without any publicity.
