'US taken in by Indian propaganda on infiltration'
Thursday, September 19 2002 23:37 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Questioning the source of US Ambassador to New Delhi Robert Blackwill's assertion that the infiltration has once again gone up at the line of control (LoC), Pakistan on September 19 night alleged that US could have been "carried away " by Indian propaganda.

Expressing surprise at Blackwill's remarks, Defence spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi said that the US Ambassador was either innocent or "taken in" by the Indian propaganda.

"I wonder what is the source of US Ambassador. He has no means of verifying such charges. It appears he has been taken in by the constant Indian propaganda. There is absolutely no proof of such an activity,'' he told media.

Insisting that nothing was happening from Pakistan side of the LoC, as reiterated by President General Pervez Musharraf he said Pakistan was surprised at the reported remarks of Blackwill.

He said in view of the allegations and counter allegations the only way to verify the truth was to have the United Nations Military Group of Observers on both sides of the LoC.
