Omar to resign as Union minister after J&K polls
Friday, September 20 2002 22:38 Hrs (IST)

Jammu: Minister of State for External Affairs and National Conference president Omar Abdullah has said that he would quit the Union Ministry after the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

"I will tender my resignation to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee as Minister of State for External Affairs after winning the Assembly elections from Ganderbal constituency," he said in an interview carried in a local daily, 'Excelsior'.

Omar said that he would be doing this, as he was more interested in serving the people of his state.

"There is no question of keeping two options open and I am not like others, who want to keep different options open in politics," he said.

Asserting that his party will get a majority in the elections, the NC president claimed no other party was in a position to form a government in the state.
