Cauvery: SC issues notice to Krishna on TN plea

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on September 23 issued notice to Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on the contempt petition filed by Tamil Nadu alleging non- release of Cauvery river water as stipulated by the Apex Court and later by Cauvery River Authority (CRA).

A three-judge Bench comprising Chief Justice B N Kirpal, Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Arijit Pasayat asked the Chief Minister to file his reply by September 30, the next date of hearing.

The Court also asked the Union government to file an affidavit indicating the inflow of Cauvery water into Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu on the daily basis by September 27 to ascertain whether directions of CRA and the Apex Court had been complied with.

The notices were also issued to Water Resources Minister S K Patil, Karnataka chief secretary and the water resources secretary of the state.
