Guj attack, 'deliberate design' of enemy: Advani
Tuesday, September 24 2002 21:33 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Hinting at Pakistan's involvement in the temple attack in Gujarat, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on September 24 night termed it as "a very deliberate design" to divert attention from the "positive developments" in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of on-going Assembly polls there.

"The enemies of the country feel that the positive developments in Jammu and Kashmir will strengthen India's cause and therefore trying to divert attention from this," Advani told reporters.

Asked about the possibility of a communal backlash following the terrorist strike, he said, "I am sure the people will understand that any communal conflict would only serve the very purpose of the terrorists."

Advani said the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to people of the state to maintain peace "keeping the enemy's intentions in mind".
