JK ultras attack booth, house of 2 candidates

Srinagar: Militants on September 24 attacked a polling station in Chadoora constituency of Badgam district in Central Kashmir to disrupt polls, official sources said.

Armed with sophisticated weapons, militants opened fire on the polling booth manned by a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at Chandpora village around 10:00 hours (IST), the sources said.

The sources said that the personnel fired back but no casualty was reported. However, the polling was disrupted for a brief period.

Meanwhile, militants attacked the residential houses of two candidates and brutally killed close relative of another candidate in Kashmir Valley since September 23 night.

Beheaded body of Abdul Rehman Sofi, maternal uncle of National Conference candidate from Bandipora Javid Hussain Shah was recovered by police from Dachigam area of Bandipora in North Kashmir district of Baramulla on September 24, the sources said, adding that Rehman was abducted and later killed by militants.

Ultra opened fire on the house of National Conference sitting Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and party candidate from Shopian, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi at Kachdoora in Pulwama district on September 23 night but no was injured, the sources said.

This was the third attack on the house of Rafi during the past four days.

Earlier, militants lobbed grenades and opened fire on his house on two occasions but he escaped unhurt.

Militants attacked the house of an independent candidate from Chadoora, Syed Abdul Rashid Bukhari in Badgam district on September 23 night. His guards fired back and no were hurt in the shootout, the sources said.
