Cauvery Monitoring Committee meet begins in B'lore

Bangalore: Amidst boycott by Tamil Nadu, the emergency meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee began in Bangalore on September 24.

The meeting is being attended Secretary, Union Ministry of Water Resources, A K Goswami, Central Water Commission chairman Sureshchandra and top agricultural and water experts from the Centre.

Karnataka chief secretary A Ravindra, Pondicherry chief secretary T T Joseph and Kerala special secretary, Irrigation, Aasha Thomas, are representing the riparian states.

Tamil Nadu had sought postponement of September 24 meeting contending that "the matter is sub-judice".

After the meeting, the committee would conduct an on the spot survey of water levels in the Cauvery basin reservoirs in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, as directed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
