JuM claims responsibility of Gogjibagh encounter

Srinagar: Pro-Pakistan militant outfit, Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) on September 24 claimed that its four activists including two Pakistanis were involved in the gunbattle with security forces at Gojgibagh in uptown Srinagar in which three policemen, including two officers were taken hostage on September 23 night.

Identifying the militants as Munir Ahmad, Mohammad Ashraf and their Pakistani associates Wajahat-Ullah and Ibrahim, the spokesman of the JuM told NAFA, a local news agency, that these militants were engaged in the encounter that broke out on September 23 evening.

The militants were preparing to carryout a fidayeen (suicide) attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp but were intercepted by a police party resulting in the encounter, the spokesman said.

He said that the four militants were in contact with the outfit till 23:00 hours (IST) on September 23 and after that the communications were snapped and their fate was not known.
