Tuesday, September 24 2002 14:20 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Pro-Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) on September 24 claimed three of its four militants engaged in the gunbattle with security forces at Gogjibagh in uptown Srinagar have returned to their hideouts safely.

"We have resumed contact with the militants who reached their hideouts after night- long encounter with the security forces," the JuM spokesman told NAFA, a local news agency.

He said that the militants fled the encounter site on September 24 and in the process, one of them, a local, got separated from the group and probably killed during the encounter.

Earlier during the day, the spokesman told the news agency that its four activists including two Pakistanis were involved in the encounter with the security forces and identified them as Munir Ahmad, Mohammad Ashraf and the Pakistani associates as Wajahat-ullah and Ibrahim.
