New Delhi: The Delhi police on September 24 filed a caveat in the Supreme Court to
pre-empt suspended senior Haryana police official R K Sharma, prime accused in the
Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, from obtaining any possible ex-parte anticipatory
bail order.
The caveat was filed by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police following non-surrender of
the accused even after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High
Court on September 9.
The short caveat read as, "Let nothing be done in the above mentioned matter without
notice to the undersigned counsel for respondent caveator." The caveat was filed by
counsel D S Mahra.
The High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Sharma on the ground that
prima facie sufficient evidence against him was collected by the prosecution.
The High Court had said the conduct of Sharma after issuance of arrest warrants by
the trial court on August 7 showed that he is trying to abscond from
investigation.
The court had said Sharma remained "elusive" and was probably "safe" wherever he was
hiding.
A city court had allowed police to initiate the proceedings of declaring Sharma as
proclaimed offender in the case and to attach his property.
Till now three co-accused, Shri Bhagwan, Pradeep and Satya Prakash has been arrested
and are in judicial custody.
Police on September 23 announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for providing information
about the fourth accused Ved Prakash alias Kalu who has been evading arrest.
