New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will observe October 1 as
"anti-terrorism day" holding nationwide meetings to mobilise public opinion in the
wake of the terrorist strike at the Swaminarayan temple in Gandhinagar on September
24.
Briefing reporters after a two-hour long emergency meeting of the party's central
office bearers and members of the national executive, party president M Venkaiah
Naidu said, "It is time now to take further steps for totally eliminating and wiping
out the terrorist menace from the country" and asked people to rise above "narrow
political and partisan considerations".
Stating that it was becoming increasingly intolerable for patriotic citizens to
accept such actions lying down, he said while the government has succeeded on the
diplomatic front by isolating Pakistan in international arena, was
successfully holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir and had taken many initiatives,
further steps were needed to completely eliminate terrorism.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani gave a detailed account to the meeting of the
storming of the temple in Gandhinagar by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and
the killing of the terrorists.
"Our enemies are disappointed that nothing happened after this incident unlike what
happened after Godhra," Naidu quoted Advani as saying.
