Naga CM asks rebels to eschew violence, work in peace
Thursday, September 26 2002 16:46 Hrs (IST)

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir on September 26 called upon Nagas to work out a "political framework" in consultation with Constitutional experts, bereft of all modes of violence and present it to all underground factions.

Making a statement on the concluding day of the current session of the Assembly, jamir asserted that all forms of violence must stop in order to create a congenial atmosphere for meaningful discussions and consultations among the Nagas themselves to work out the political framework, which can be presented to all factions for examination and consideration.

The Chief Minister said to prepare such a framework, an expert committee with Constitutional experts should be set up in consultation with all shades of public opinion.

He said without such a step, the political negotiation may drag on and on without any concrete result.

Reiterating his party and the government's stand on the Naga political issue, Jamir stoutly discounted the allegation that the Congress government had come in the way of the on-going peace process between the Centre and underground factions.
