New Delhi: The tenure of the Nanavati Commission set up to probe certain aspects of
the 1984 anti-Sikh riots has been extended by another six months.
The Union Cabinet decided this, an official spokesperson told reporters after the
meeting.
The term of the Commission, which was to have expired on October 2, will now end on
April 2, 2003.
"The government hopes that the task of the Commission, which has got four
extensions, will be completed by that time," she said.
The Centre had set up the Commission on May 8, 2000.
