Mumbai: Police on September 27 filed a chargesheet in a special court against
underworld don Chhota Rajan and his three associates for allegedly extorting money
from a businessman.
The chargesheet was filed in the court of designated judge Abhay Thipsay, hearing
cases tried under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Chhota Rajan and his associate Bunty Pande are absconding while two others, Ajay
Mahadik and Roopesh Pujari were caught red-handed on July 11 this year in suburban
Juhu when they were accepting Rs 25 lakh extortion money.
The duo had demanded Rs 1 crore from a businessman and threatened to kill him if he
refused to pay the amount. The deal was finally settled for Rs 25 lakh. The victim
informed the police who laid a trap and arrested the gangsters while accepting the
money.
The case was registered against all the four gangsters on July 11. They have been
charged with section 387 Indian Penal Code (IPC) (extortion), Section 120-b IPC
(conspiracy), section 34 IPC (common intention) and Section 3 of MCOCA.
The chargesheet was filed by investigating officer S S Kamble. Public prosecutor
Jimmy Madon will conduct the trial.
