Naidu meets PM, briefs about emergency meet
Friday, September 27 2002 19:54 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president M Venkaiah Naidu on September 27 gave a detailed briefing to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on last evening's (Sept 26) emergency meeting of senior party leaders attended by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and several Central ministers.

During the two-hour luncheon meeting, Vajpayee was informed of a proposed Anti-Terrorist day to be observed on October 1 as also the ongoing 'Gaon Chalo Abhiyan' (go to villages campaign) launched by the party to mobilise public opinion keeping in view the Assembly elections slated in about 10 states and Lok Sabha elections in 2004.

Naidu told Vajpayee of the "positive response" to the programme undertaken by him and how attempts were being made to boost the sagging morale of the party cadres following setbacks in recent Assembly elections, party sources said.

The Prime Minister was also given a detailed account of the five zonal meetings held in Bangalore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Bhopal and Guwahati covering all the states and the steps being taken to increase the BJP support base in Eastern and North-Eastern region.

At the party's emergency meeting on September 26, Advani had given a detailed account of the terrorist attack on Swaminarayan temple in Gandhinagar and how NSG (National Security Guards) commandos cleared the shrine of the militants.
