
Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah on September 27 dared
Union Minister of State for Defence Chaman Lal Gupta to order an inquiry into the
Gogjibagh incident in Srinagar in which two militants were killed and a residential
premises blown off.
"He (Gupta) is a Union Minister of State for Defence. He has everything available at
his fingertips. He can initiate an enquiry into the incident," Omar told
reporters.
He was reacting to allegations by Gupta in Jammu that the said encounter on September
23 and 24 was state-managed by the police at the behest of National Conference to
scare away voters on the polling day.
He has military intelligence at his disposal and both the corps commanders in
Srinagar and Jammu could be asked to probe into the incident, Omar said, adding, "If
he cannot do this, then he must keep quite.
The Jammu and Kashmir police assisted by BSF (Border Security Force) had gunned down
two militants in uptown Gogjibagh after securing the safe release of three state
police personnel taken hostage by them on the night of September 23-24.
